The Rise of the Remote Worker
With more people working from home these past few months, it’s not surprising that people are beginning to look for jobs where they can work remotely. Within the last year, searches for “remote jobs” has increased by 130% within UK Google searches.
The search for “remote jobs” spiked between December 2019 and January 2020 and after a decline at the beginning of the year, it has been steadily increasing since the middle of March this year.
Here at OnlyMarketingJobs.com we’ve also seen a 33% increase of searches containing the word “remote” from 2019 to 2020. Although this increase is not quite as drastic as the Google searches, it does still match the current trend.
When you drill down into queries related to the search “remote jobs” on Google Trends. We can see the “rising” queries – these are the search queries with the biggest increase in search frequency YOY. The top 5 “rising” queries are:
- “remote medical coder jobs” +350%
- “remote customer service jobs” +190%
- “remote jobs near me” +130%
- “remote marketing jobs” +110%
- “remote jobs London” +60%
Within the query “remote marketing jobs”, social media is the “breakout” related topic. A breakout topic has had a tremendous increase in search. This suggest that those people who are looking for remote jobs are also interested in working within social media. Why social media? Sadly, we don’t seem to have the data for that.
One thing that only time will tell, is the effect working from home these past few months will have within the business world. Will companies be more willing to allow employees to work remotely or will it be back to business as usual?
